NEW LCB SURF STORE RIDER.

*Saimon De Oliveria.

*Saimon is a 21 year old brazilian who's been residing in london now for a year and half. After being acquainted with him a few months back it was quickly apparent that this guy is super structured in skating and life in general. His chilled persona is merely a facade for the intricately planned onslaught that awaits.

"Saimon says"

*Saimon is the freshest recruit for LCB STORE skate team, so to kick things off with a bang we thought we would give you a little insight into this young mans mind. This interview was done in the back of the car on the way back from Milton Keynes the other day.

*I persisted to ask Saimon questions while his partners in crime (Rafael and marcus) sat either side, blurting hilarious anecdotes in some wondrous dialect , consisting of drips and drabs of : Portuguese, spanish, english and Italian. Probably the funniest 45 minutes ever of my life and i hardly understood any of the answers being fired back at me in fits of laughter.

*But here,s the general drift:

ME* So being brazilian i assume that the roots of your riding came from surfing?

HIM* Na, not really.

ME* So how did it all start then?

HIM* I seen some dudes messing around outside my home in brazil and like the look of it. After 3 months of gruelling waiting , i had my first board.

ME* How long ago was this?

HIM* 4 years ago.

ME* So, skatepark or street?

HIM* Street.

ME* Hi tops or low?

HIM* Low.

ME* Baggy slacks or emo straps?

HIM* Normalmente.

ME* Favourite meal?

HIM* Breakfast and ciggie.

ME* Rails or ledges?

HIM* Ledges.

ME*Women!, younger or older?

HIM* Younger.

ME* Do you like em bigger on the top or the bottom?

HIM* TOP!!.

ME* Tea or coffee?

HIM* Hot choco.

ME* How many sugars?

HIM* 4.

ME* That wasn't an offer by the way.

ME* Favourite thing bout your job at the moment?

HIM* Going home.

ME* Beer or wine?

HIM* Wine.

ME* Red or white?

HIM* White.

ME* Do you stand on the right or walk on the left?

HIM* Walk on the left.

ME* Is the glass half empty or half full?

HIM* I don't know.

ME* Fair enough.

ME* Now for a hyperthytical question. If you awoke one night to find your flat in a blaze of glory and you had the option of either saving your dog or your deck, what would it be?

HIM* Deck.

ME* Ohhhh!!.Commitment.

ME* Favourite skate companies?

HIM* Drop dead, enjoi.

ME* How much longer you planning on lurking in london?

HIM* No idea.

ME* What do you call a dear with no eye,s?

HIM* No idea.

ME* Ha!!! Bingo.

ME* 2000nsk8 to-do list?

HIM* Start setting up a wee skate company and maybe start studying something in media.

ME* Thanks anyone?

HIM* GOD, mother, father and all my friends.

ME* Anything else?

HIM* Fi que m todos na paz !!! vida loka jao.

ME* Cheers for that Saimon, good man.

NEW SURFERS PATH IN AT LCB SURFSTORE

Surfer’s Path - April/May 2008 - #65

Hey, what happened? It used to be all about tough guys tackling giant surf and surviving on stolen pineapples! Now it’s live on our laptops, surf kids in corporate mansions at Pipe, and the surf ‘sucks’ if it isn’t all-time. Has December on the North Shore become a virtual trade show, a surfwear giant theme park? Read this.
Onsale UK: 29th February
Onsale US: 29th March

Surfing II Corps, Republic of Vietnam
A surfer is drafted and dispatched to the horror of 1960s Vietnam. It doesn’t make Pat Rogan unique, but the beachbreak sessions on commandeered boards, sometimes with Viet Cong watching from the shore, the birth of the SCSA, and the unauthorized Hawaiian luaus certainly make his one of the more bizarre tours of duty.

Call Me Bear: Q&A with John Milius
Film director John Milius was once a wannabe surfer kid at Malibu. Later, he made blockbuster films like Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn, and Clear and Present Danger. Early on in this illustrious trajectory he produced perhaps the only Hollywood movie that successfully captures something of surfing’s true essence, Big Wednesday. Thirty years on, the big man talks.

Waveriders
The story of Ireland, from Freeth to Aileens and Mullaghmore. Here’s a film that set out to tell the tale of Ireland’s unique place in surfing’s culture, starting with the Irish-Hawaiian who helped revive the sport in Hawaii before spreading it to California, and culminating with modern-day pioneers tackling the largest swell ever forecast for the Irish coast.

Body Language on the Bukit
Observations from a sub-surface perspective from a guy who has spent decades sliding through more beautiful Bali barrels than most surfers score in a lifetime, all of them unhindered by no more equipment than a pair of Duck Foot fins. As a photographer and diary-writer , his observations offer an unusual perspective on Bali’s ever expanding surfing realm.
Words by Patrick O’Leary; Photos by Patrick O’Leary and Hui-Chun Lu

Sacred Sumba
Wandering in this corner of Indonesia is unlike surf tripping anywhere else. Sumba is one of the archipelago’s poorest islands, a world dominated by ancient traditions, where time seems to have stopped, where megaliths and spirit culture remain strong, and where the surfing becomes just a small part of an overwhelming sensory experience.
Words by Brendon Bosworth; Photos by Alan van Guysen and John Callahan

Alaskafolio
For many surfers Alaska might just be a latitude too far, but as with all extremes, attitude is key. In winter, days are so short that when the waves are pumping (often), you need to run like hell through snow and ice to catch what barrels you can before the light fades. But overcome these minor obstacles and you’ll find an empty, consistent, highlyphotogenic surfing realm, as this Alaskan local shows us.
Words and Photographs by Scott Dickerson

Her Darkest Son: The Ghosts of Romance in Central America
A tale of strange attractions in a land of love and war and lengthy pointbreaks. There are ghosts in this place and spirits on the loose, easily missed by most but as real as a green, backlit barrel for those with the power to perceive them.
Fiction by E.A. McKay; Illustrations by Jeff Petersen

The Vans Team Trip
Somebody let Ben, the Document Art Editor, out of the office for some reason. He wandered about for a bit and found the Vans team on their way to Morzine.

Air & Style
Henry Jackson went to Munich under the guise of being a journalist and tells us all.

72 Hours in Sainte Foy
If you head along the road to Val D'Isere, you might just find this little powder haunt.

How to do a Season in Verbier
It's in Switzerland, you know.

Plus heaps more.

so don,t be shy and pop on by.

seeking riders!!!

LCB STORE is now in the process of forming a skate team and is looking for a couple more riders to add to the list.

THE PREREQUISITE:
-SKATES LIKE THERES NO TOMORROW..
-LIVES LIKE THERES NO TOMORROW.
-LONDON LURKER.
-AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST A BANGING HAIR STYLE!!!!

Most importantly must be a very proactive skater, someone how sits on the bus peering at possible spots or spends hours awake in bed at night pondering the next onslaught or annoys people because they talk about skating to much,Finds a square metre of dry concrete in the rain and sessions it for hours, takes time out of there skate to help out the grommies
and just an all round nice bloke.
Any age, any style considered, because that will be the diversified nature of the team.

If your up for it heres what we need from you:
Either a snippet of footage that you,ve got , photo,s and a skate reference.(someone who knows you and your skating habits)
So if you live london and have what it takes please don't hesitate to message us on the myspace with your footage or links to your footage and will go from there.

The process is slow so remeber.Don,t call us , will call you.
RIGHT,let your feet do the talking. PEACE!!!!
